US Privacy Attorney to Assist with International GDPR Workshop

In June, Rian Kinney of The Kinney Firm will travel to Belgrade, Serbia to assist Heather Burns of WebDevLaw with presenting the Developing for Privacy and Data Protection Workshop covering the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and ePrivacy Directive at the WordCamp Europe 2018 conference.

Heather Burns is a digital law specialist, privacy law advocate and head of the WordPress Core-Privacy team. She researches, writes, publishes, consults, and speaks extensively on internet laws and policies which affect the crafts of web design and development.

The workshop will utilize the GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and Privacy by Design as frameworks for starting points, Attendees will gain an overview of the latest legal requirements on data at rest (data collection, processing, retention, and sharing) and in transit (cookies, analytics, and telemetry.) Heather will translate legal expectations into practical steps for the WordPress development workflow across plugins, themes, websites, and apps.

“The GDPR is a European Law with global impact. It will change how businesses respect and handle privacy, regardless of where they are headquartered. U.S. law will shift with this move, so traveling to Europe to work with, and learn from, industry experts at the forefront of this issue is an amazing opportunity to acquire skills and expertise in an area affecting Kinney Firm clients. I am incredibly proud to have been selected for this opportunity.”

The three-hour workshop will take place on Saturday, June 16th, from 2-5 pm. Space is limited to the first 60 registrants and is expected to be sold out.
